Welcome to the 2008/2009 School Year. There are a number of new procedures to follow this year and we hope that it will simplify your quest for information about transportation for your children:
First: Your child must be registered to ride the school bus at the school, so make sure when you communicate with the school, whether your student is new to that school or whether you are a returning student, that you confirm that “yes” is marked in the transportation section of your students basic data page by the school secretary or registrar. The guideline is that if your child lives more than 1 mile from the neighborhood school as measured by the closest public access then they are eligible for transportation. The only exception to this is that if an area has been designated hazardous for traffic reasons, the child may be eligible for transportation. NOTE: Parents of children with special needs who have been ARDed for transportation should call the Special Needs route coordinator at 215-6964 for route information.
Secondly: Routes are assigned from 2 to 3 days after you have been registered at the school. You may call the school 2 days after you register for transportation and the school will give you your route information. If your circumstances dictate that you cannot wait the two days, then type your address into the route information section of this web site and take the bus that services your address and school. It will give you the bus number, stop location and time. This is a temporary measure. You will still need to register your child for transportation at the school.
Thirdly: We will send out route information by telephone on our school messenger program at least three times; by post card to your listed address and you may obtain route information through your child’s school secretary/registrar or from our web site under “routing information”.
Please know that our drivers are all about safety and are all qualified in First Aid, CPR and AED operation during the first year of their employment. The majority of our mechanics are ASE certified as well as Master School Bus Technicians.
We really appreciate your letting us serve you and your students and look forward to working with you.
Sincerely,
Walt Prothro
Director of Transportation
